Type Locality and Naming
Save Basin (Southeastern Zimbabwe). Named for the Lundi (now often referred to as Runde) geographic area and river system in southeastern Zimbabwe. It is a recognized lithostratigraphic unit forming part of the primary coal-bearing sequence within the Save Basin's Karoo Supergroup strata. Lower unit in Ecca Gr in Save Basin

Lithology and Thickness
A highly carbonaceous succession characterized primarily by economic to sub-economic coal seams, interbedded with carbonaceous shales and mudstones.
Relationships and Distribution
Lower contact
Conformably overlies the basal Mkushwe Sst Fm
Upper contact
Conformably overlain by the Mkwasine Grits and Mudstones Fm.
Regional extent
Geographically restricted to the Save Basin (and associated Bubye/Limpopo coalfield extensions) in southeastern Zimbabwe. Ecca Gr equivalent. Based on its stratigraphic position, it correlates with the lower-to-middle portions of the Ecca Gr in the Main Karoo Basin, and is chronostratigraphically related to units like the Lower Mkushwe Shale or Songwe Grits within the same regional interval.
